A piezoelectric actuator is an inverse piezoelectric device that converts an electric impulse into an equivalent mechanical motion. Piezoelectricity is produced when there is a strain on certain crystals and substances. The electricity generated is proportional to the applied strain. The reverse is also true when an electrical impulse is applied to a piezoelectric substance, which induces a mechanical change. Piezoelectric actuators and motors are reverse piezo devices. Piezoelectric actuators are used in applications that require accuracy and precision. Their overall volume and mass are low, they have a fast response time, and consume less power. In addition, there is very low electromagnetic interference caused due to these devices.
